CPW Needs extra hands for Barge-Shocking Project
Next week, Tuesday 8/30 through Friday 9/2, CPW needs help with a big shocking project
on the Upper Arkansas.
CPW will be barge-shocking 2 sites each on the Lake Fork, East Fork and Main Stem of the
Arkansas River near Leadville and Hayden Meadows.
There will be jobs on the bank and in the water. Netting, transferring and measuring fish
plus data collection will be involved. Water conditions should not be too bad, however
those wading should be in good physical condition as the flows can make wading a little
difficult.
Shocking will start on the Lake Fork then move to the East Fork, Main stem then Hayden
Meadows.
Volunteers need to bring waders, boots, water, lunch, sunscreen and hats and prepare for
a full day’s work. CPW does have some loaner waders and boots if needed.
Salida area volunteers to meet Alex Townsend, CPW Biologist, at his shop at the Mt.
Shavano Hatchery each morning at 7:00 am. Carpooling from this location is encouraged
as there is ample parking in the upper parking lot to leave vehicles. If you live in the
Leadville area, volunteers should meet at Saturday’s gas station south of Leadville
between 7:45 and 8:00 am to meet the group. The group will then travel to the shocking
location together.
Please respond ASAP to Pam Simpson at pkssimpp@gmail.com with the days(s) you can
volunteer as she needs to let Alex know how many people to expect.
